There was a time I made inky portraits and tore th There was a time I made inky portraits and tore them up. Then I rearranged the pieces into an abstract face and collaged the pieces onto a heavy board. After that I added more ink and paint to finish off the piece. They actually came out of a time of searching sprinkled with some frustration. For some reason I pulled this one out to share today….
This piece is what it feels like when the heavens This piece is what it feels like when the heavens start to roll up and the veil between seen and unseen gets paper-thin. Deep blues, starry flecks, and torn, dripping color—like the sky is being pulled back to reveal all the stories and scars underneath.

When you look at “Heavens Rolled Up,” does it feel more like an ending… or the start of something new?
Music makes pictures in my mind—that’s how many of Music makes pictures in my mind—that’s how many of my paintings came to be. This one was inspired by one of my favorite songs from Van Morrison which I listened to on a cassette! and danced around the easel. This version was done once I had a studio in California. The song is Dweller on the Threshold.
Some songs just require paintings. That’s all ther Some songs just require paintings. That’s all there is to it! I used to listen to this in Syria and dance around the studio! But this painting came as a new version once I had a studio here in California. I’d say this is probably my favorite Van Morrison song.  Did you guess that?
